Winter is long enough without wishing for it to start sooner.

Boats good......ice bad.

Ice is for drinks. Period. 8)

reason's i dread ice fishing,

(1) Have to handle, buy, care for live bait
(2) Unpredictable ice condition's
(3) extra safety gear, floater suit, spikes, rope, buddy system, etc
(4) parking tickets, old men fishing with out there pants on, guys littering all over the ice.
(5) Snow, wind, hail, water on ice, unplowed country roads and boat ramps (often steep icy hills)
(6) I have a serious fishing addiction, and cant afford to spend every winter in Florida, so ice fish as much as i can
(7) Well 7 is a lucky number so i couldn't stop at 6, I have to drive 3-6 hour's for my ice fishing tournament's i enter.

Bonus bass isn't open, Joking, i fish for walleye way more then i do bass over the course of the year, but because own a bass boat, i get that bass guy rep, i wouldn't change it, but fishing out of the boat is just my thing. ice fished every night for 2 months, every ice fishing season when i was a kid, kinda wore it out for me.

theDL, that answer is VERY simple.

fish open water!

i haven't "winterized" my boat since I bought it in 2004.

we can start by fishing the Niagara River for bows and browns. But that does get busy. So we can go next over to Port Dalhousie for Browns. Same deal, but a little less busy.

if you want to get away from the crowd, like I do, and troll instead of 3 way (cause that is BORING), you head out into the lake. this can be done through dalhousie or niagara river.

however, if you get REALLY lucky, you can get a winter like last winter, and guys can fish quinte in the boat up until closer of walleye -- whenever that exactly is.

there are TONS of fishing opportunities, in open water, and not have to crowd over the 8" hole. you can cast, you can jig, you can troll, but most importantly - you can fish!

hope this helps you understand theDL.

Ice ??

Who's dissing ice........

I LOVE ice. Because:

- You can walk on it without a boat.
- No = no $5,000 boat, insurance, gas, registration, launching problems, repairs, sea sickness. etc.
- If you work up a sweat you can just unzip your parka.
- You don't have to pee over the side of ice.
- Keeps your beer cold - gratis.
- Keeps your fish cold - gratis.
- Everybody's on an equal playing field. (OK, except those with an ATV)
- Ice rods are easier to pack.
- You get to use a Vex.
- You can go for a stroll.
- I get to fish 'Battle on the Bay'.
