That would just depend on if the word is out that the Big one's are biting or not. Most of the board members have the right equipment to handle what ever weather the B.O.Q can throw at them. Lake Ontario is a different story.

I'm with you on that shark. I have fished very nasty stuff in lake ont chasing smallmouth with every wave busting over the bow , the bilge running constant and cant even take your foot off the bow mount trolling motor without planning it with your partner or the waves will throw you sideways. Not fun. There was a time when I didnt even look at the weather before going fishing as I would just deal with it. Now I pick and choose my days

i do get seasick - badly.

so rather than "fight" it with different remedies, I just don't go out if it is rolling at all.

if it is a "chop", which is usually the case in Quinte, i'll go out up to 3 footers or so.

if the air temperatute is below -5, it gets very dangerous with spray, as it'll freeze to the boat ... i often wont go out if the waves have any chance of cresting or spraying into my boat.

but if the air temps are above 0, well, i guess it depends on how bad I want to fish, lol.

When everybody on the boat starts talking to God it's time to quit.

A few years back the guys got caught east of the ferry and I'm not kidding a lot of them were talking to God by the time they got back to Picton. I guess God was looking out for them or He would have told them to turn around and go to Pryners Cove.

Like dan said, i don't even look at the wind before going fishing I just deal with it, Makes you learn to respect your boat, and fish inside bays and sheltered areas. Not a fan of thunder or heavy rain thou.

I wouldn't drive in 6 footer's on a fun or tournament day fishing, knowing i have to fish in 6 foot waves, but i run threw them for a few miles to get to flat water all the time. plan out your area, break it down, to where you can fish in high winds, and if you have to run accross big waves and they get huge how are you going to get back to the launch.
Being i fish the Kingston area, worst case often would be call a cab. the east gap, often holds a mixed bag of waves from every direction.

Along walk is better then a Long cold swim......

Steve

Along with the wind you have to figure which ramps are useable with prevailing winds, could be a tough launch\retrieve season with low water situation.

I don't get sea sick too easily but any more than 3 ft on the big lake and I head home. 3 is doable at the Bonnet but 3 can blow up to 5 or 6 in a hurry and the waves get bigger closer to shore on the way in so I consider that. The same for the reach. On the BOQ 3 is fine no worries.

waves what waves :D :D :D ,if the waves are too big , get a bigger boat  seriously anything over 8 ft starts to create issues on any boat under thirty feet, if they get to 4-5' i'm headed for port ,i'm no swordboat captain and i'm not out at the Flemish cap

No fish is worth a life.

Don't let your ego tell you other wise. The water can be dangerous.

Plus I'm with shark, fishing should be fun first and foremost. Fishing in 5'ers is no fun, in the boats we own.

Scott

There was a time I didn't care about the wind weather or waves, I was so focused on fish. A little older and I hope a little smarter, (and after $ 2600.oo damage to my bass boat in the Canadian Open in 2012), I have now at least a little respect for my wallet.
No matter how experienced or size of boat, it only takes one wrong move or wave.
No fear is no excuse!

Well i have a boat designed for big water but very rarely do i catch fish in the rough stuff. Had one day last year where we caught a bunch in 3-4 foot waves and felt comfortable,in most cases for me i make the decision based on "am i having fun" and if the answer is NO away i go. As most. Have said here its only a fish.
