Planning my first trip to the bay in 2 weeks. Read the board here, and have some questions I cannot find answers to:

Recommendations for a place to stay in Picton/close to Picton. I know of twin peaks, but its like half hour from Picton...but I want to be closer to the launch. Bonuses would be an outlet to charge batteries on boat, and a safe place to park boat (motel style, outside my door maybe?)

Any watering holes in Picton for a couple beers at the end of the day? Good/reasonably cheap place to eat dinner?

Any cost for the Launch in Picton, or the ferry launch? Is parking going to be an issue (coming down Thursday-Saturday)? Where (street) exactly is the public launch in Picton?

I heard the ferry is free? When does it run? (coming from Ottawa) Is there a website?

Sorry for all the questions, but answers will have my appreciations!

Welcome aboard crouton, I'll do my best to answer your questions, but there may be more local guys on here with more upto date/details info:

-I haven't been here http://www.merlandpark.com/ yet, but I will be staying there in a few weeks. It seems like a good cottage rental place, right on the water, docking and launching there and seems geared towards fisherman. I've also heard good things about west lake willows, and they certainly know fishing on the bay.

Any watering holes in Picton for a couple beers at the end of the day? Good/reasonably cheap place to eat dinner? Just drive down the main st, there's a few diners that are good, pizza places, etc. I've not had a bad meal in any of the little mom and pop places, but I can't think of their names

Any cost for the Launch in Picton, or the ferry launch? Is parking going to be an issue (coming down Thursday-Saturday)? Where (street) exactly is the public launch in Picton?
Launch is here: https://maps.google.ca/maps?q=44.010156,+-77.135031&num=1&vpsrc=6&ie=UTF8&t=m&z=17&iwloc=A
The ferry launch is here: https://maps.google.ca/maps?q=44.048856,+-77.051239&num=1&vpsrc=0&ie=UTF8&t=m&z=14&iwloc=A
I think the picton harbour launch is $6. The adolphus town ferry launch is free. Parking at both can get busy during the weekends, but I've always managed to find a place to park, earlier is easier.

I heard the ferry is free? When does it run? (coming from Ottawa) Is there a website? The ferry is free, I think it runs 24/7, with reduced service during off hours. The boat launch is on the east side of the ferry ride

Sorry for all the questions, but answers will have my appreciations!

Ferry runs from 600am until 115am.
Leaves glenora side on the hr and half hr, adolphustown side at quarter after and quarter to.
It runs every 15 mins from both sides between 10am and 730 pm but not sure which weekend they stop doing that as its only for the busy season but they have still been doing it this week so I'd have to assume it will be that way this weekend.
Good luck,

Crouton-cc, call Jan at the Chamber of tourism and Commerce in Picton and ask her to mail you the "red map" and the fishing map. Her number is 613 476 2421. The red map has all info you are looking for and the fishing map is a generic map of the lakes around the County and hot spots. She will mail it free. Dave
