I got my Catalina 305Da reel in the mail today from the photo contest.

Sweet looking reel!!!

What should I use it for? Line capacity is 420 yds/ 20 pound mono...... wire? lead?...........?

I have 2 wire reels already, which are Diawa Sealines. I was thinking of using the catalina as a new wire reel, since it is by far my best quality reel, and than using the Sealine for lead or the riggers.

Thoughts?

A big thanks to Time on The Water Canada, Canada Pro Angling Outdoors Agency and Okuma for the reel.

If I use my Catalina for wire, do I just attach the 1000 feet of wire directly to the reel, or pull on some backing first?

Just put some electrical tape on there to give it something to bite into/hold your knot...and let her rip Jim. The tekota's have a little knob to tie on to so you don't even need tape. Maybe the new Cat's have this as well? In any case you don't need to waste money on backing. That reel will hold 1000' of 30# wire nicely.

Thanks, no knob for attching wire, so I will just attach directly.
