I was thinking about running some smaller Dipsies this fall for walleye and wondering about experiences out there with the zero's set at number 3 with the larger TD11 raps and Mann's stretch lures. Are there some guidelines available for depths they will attain, etc. Are there favourite colours out there? Was thinking about 2 inline boards, two dipsies and two rods off the riggers when 3 of us in the boat...any guidance would be appreciated.

run zeros on 3's but dont use divers, use f-18 and shallow baits- 100 ft of line

I picked up on most of your comment Landshark, and thank you! But, what do you mean by f-18?

F-18 is a floating rapala. The large ones, they work well in the purpledescent and hotsteel patterns

Hey Fred,

I'm really new to the trolling for Walleye game but I BELIEVE it's 200 feet behind the board for the TD11's and 800 Reef Runners. Hopefully someone can confirm / correct me if I'm wrong.

Andrew

If you can get your hands on the book Precision Trolling it will tell you how deep your lures are depending on how far back your line is. I have caught fish anywhere from 40 feet behind the board to 300 feet back.

Not sure about reef runners, but with most Rapala lures, the depth of the lure will be achieved with 100 feet of 10 pound mono while trolling. Line diameter and length of line out will effect the running depth on any lure. Smaller diameter line or longer lead will get deeper, heavier line or short lead will be shallower.

the main diving lures, tail dancers, reef runners, power dives, crystal minnows, etc, generally "top out" at 200' back.

much more than that, your not getting much extra depth.

i've never ran a diving bait behind a dipsy....that doesn't make sense....but certainly the baits shark recommends above - for sure!
