Great article on Ashley and her representing Canada in Texas for a Hobie Fishing World Championship.

http://www.thewhig.com/2012/10/23/fishing-for-success

Couldn't be anyone better representing and looking forward to reading about it on your blogs and site.

Congratulations and Good luck Ashley....

Cheers,

Paul

Is that a event you have to qualify for ?? or a any one can go deal ?
I know kayak fishing tournaments are getting to be very popular.

If I am correct, I believe that you have to be selected by Hobie to compete in this event.

Kayak fishing is growing. I have even heard of people catching halibut in them, in a near shore fishery in Alaska. Reading the article, it has me wondering about some of the early season shallow water browns near Wellington.

I believe there's a memeber here that is also a kayak fisher and has posted great results using a kayak in the Spring for browns.

Cheers

Yes those browns fight well when the water is cold. :)
UT_Falcon even caught Bonnet salmon from a yak this year.
Don't know if he was the one the coast guard gave a trip back to shore this year.
There will be a kayak walleye tourney at Fosters again next year , OKFS, the week-end after the Victoria day one.
May be yak fishing on the Reach this saturday, depending on the wind, and you always have to be ready in case you turtle. :)

Legacy, haven't seen your "Big City " friend much on the water this year.

Ashley's sponsored by Hobie, probably due to her excellent PR skills, and pretty sure the Texas derby is an invite only.

WTG Ashley and have fun ! :)

Brent

I bought one in the spring, not a hobie, have had lots of fun, and got some great fish. Its nice to not have to tow the boat.

I read that hobie provides all the kayak's/ electronic's, so sounds like every one has a even playing feild, sounds like a great event, Ashley is very lucky to get to go.

I bought one in August. I love it. I want to get a 14+ foot one to hit the big lake though. Too bad the water temp is getting low now. I don't have the proper gear to go swimming at these temps. Hopefully by spring before the browns are biting I will. I only have a 10ft yak so I can't be out in too much wave without getting soaked. That sounds like a great opportunity for her.

A little bird told me about this post..

Thank you all for such kind words and encouragement! Really appreciate having the local support! It's pretty unreal to me that I will be in Texas very soon chatting and hanging out with kayak anglers from around the world and then hopefully getting into some (BIG) southern largies!!

I will do my best to post updates in the evening from the hotel on wifi!

Hope I can make you all proud (or y'all)!!!

:)

Will you posting updates on your site, this site or a hobie one? If you're able to post, I would like to read any updates.

You're a great ambassador to the sport to begin with, Ashley. Hobie is very fortunate to have you on-board and with your influences in general and even more so with the younger generations, it can only help promote yak fishing as a whole and a greener or more environmentally way of sport fishing.

Cheers,

Paul

Thanks a lot, Paul! Very nice of you to say!!

I'll be posting on Facebook and Twitter, and possibly my website if I have time. I'll probably be posting mostly photos. I think we will be pretty busy so not sure if I will have time to blog. Hobie will be updating (to my understanding) on the event website: http://hobiefishingworlds.com/

:D
