Expired Fishing Licence and Eleven Smallmouth Bass Result in Fine NEWS October 30, 2012
A Burlington man has been fined a total of $1,200 for harvesting 11 smallmouth bass while fishing with an expired licence.
Vivekananda Lekhram pleaded guilty and was fined $200 for fishing without a licence and $1,000 for transporting fish unlawfully taken. His catch was forfeited at the time of inspection and the smallmouth bass were donated to the Brock Mission, Peterborough.
Court heard that on August 11, 2012, at the Trent River, in the Municipality of Trent Hills, a conservation officer found Vivekananda Lekhram fishing with an expired licence. The officer inspected the angler’s catch and found him in possession of 11 smallmouth bass.
Justice of the Peace Fred Ross heard the case in the Ontario Court of Justice, Campbellford, on October 25, 2012.
The ministry reminds the public that a valid fishing licence is required by individuals between 18 and 65 years of age, with a few exceptions, in order to fish in Ontario. Also, the legal catch and possession limit for smallmouth bass in Fisheries Management Zone 17 is two for holders of a Conservation Fishing Licence, and six for holders of a Sport Fishing Licence.
For further information on fishing regulations, please consult the 2012 Fishing Regulations Summary, available at ServiceOntario/Government Information Centres, licence issuers and at ontario.ca/fishing.
To report a natural resources violation, call 1-877-TIPS-MNR (847-7667) toll-free any time or contact your local ministry office during regular business hours. You can also call Crime Stoppers anonymously at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).

Lets say the smallmouth averaged 1.5lbs and if you know what you are doing you usually get 1/3 the weight of the fish in boneless fillets, so that means this dude paid about $180/lb :) Even Loblaws isnt that expensive.

Love these reports keep them coming

maybe the fine should be about 10,000 a fish. don't think anyone would take over the limit.
