Laker John and I hit the the water in Hay Bay at 0800 and on the first pass, the board fired and we had fish on!! Things looked promising until the until the fish neared the boat and we could see the gaping mouth of Mr Pike. Nonetheless, the Flicker Shad Number 9 flipped out in the net and the 25 incher was quickly released.

This bodes well although it's the wrong species........

We trolled Hay Bay for a couple hours more with only a 10 inch perch hitting the CC Shad lure. Headed off to Long Reach, the winds were light enough to let us troll upwind on the Red Barn side of the reach, where as we neared the cottages on the county side, the board fired again and John was into another fish. Once again the gaping mouth of a northern showed the prowess of the Reef Runner Barenaked. This 30 inch fish was quickly measured (MNR SUrvey requirements) and released to fight again.

We trolled downwind on the east side to Huff's Shoal ( Never seen so many rocks inside Q10) and after a couple hours headed back to Hay Bay, completing our day at 1600 with no more results.

Although we weren't skunked the target species don't appear as plentiful into the part of Quinte we fish.

Water temp in Hay Bay and Long Reach was 48 deg F, dropping daily.

Stay Tuned
