My jaw is still on the floor. Bob Izumi and Shimano go together like pb and j sammiches :P

ABU GARCIA® SIGNS IZUMI TO PRO STAFF

Legendary Canadian Angler and Television Host to to Fish Revo Reels

COLUMBIA, S.C. (November 7, 2012) - Abu Garcia® has signed one of the biggest names in Canadian fishing by inking Izumi Outdoors Inc. producer of Bob Izumi’s Real Fishing television show. Izumi Outdoors Inc. joined the Abu Garcia team in a multi-year deal that was signed today. This decision comes in an award-winning year for Abu Garcia.

The company strives for excellence with the release of their third generation of Revo low profile reels. “I am incredibly excited about working with Abu Garcia and am so impressed with just how smooth their reels are,” said Izumi. “The reels are simply great in how they look and function. As a tournament bass angler, the Revo reels have incredibly powerful drags and a full line of matching rods, which are second to none.”

“It’s great to see Bob so enthusiastic about our products. He will be an incredible asset to our Abu Garcia team,” said Chris Hockley, Canadian Marketing Manager for Pure Fishing. “Bob Izumi is Canada's best-known and most sought after contemporary fisherman. He is the country's most successful tournament fisherman, respected author, seminar speaker, conservationist, television personality and radio show host.”

For over 25-years Bob Izumi has shared adventures with anglers across North America and around the world through his television division, magazine department, Real Fishing Radio show and realfishing.com. Bob Izumi's top-rated Real Fishing Show is a unique blend of entertainment and information that brings some of the world's greatest fishing to the small screen, from the high Arctic to South America, in freshwater and salt.

I own Shimano Stradic reel and very happy with it.

From another standpoint.
Modern marketing twists our mind so much. Why we are so idol oriented?
Well Izumi found better deal with another contract.
May be he sells himself, may be he really want to make better products.
We can not read him mind.

One thing I don't want to do. Don't make big deal out of this ordinary event.

This is great news for Abu Garcia and will really go a long way in finally marketing the best product in the industry here in Canada. I have used Abu Garcia exclusively for over 25 years and have had few if any issues with their products. The old faithful 5500 still gets her place in the boat after 20 years beside the Revos. . AWESOME and intellegent move for both parties.

Ya wonder whats going on at Shimano, year and a half ago they lost Lindner now Bob. Although maybe Shimano isnt the one who is being left maybe they are simply taking another marketing route and are not renewing some of their bigger endorsement deals.

WOW!!!

So where and how do we contact Shimano to fill the openeing? ;)

I'm a fan of both manufacturers...kinda good to see some shake-up.

Thanks for sharing, Dan.

I fish with both reels. Out of the box I like the Abu better, however after 3 years of use my shimano now out performs my abu by quite a bit. Thanks for sharing.

Make no mistake..its all about the money. I would venture that Shimano did not want to lose such an advertising icon like Bob Izumi but were simply out bid. It happens all the time. It really shows the lack of "credibilty" with pros pitching tackle. No doubt Shimano will suffer in the sales dept as Bob did a great job. No disrespect intended its a business.

Shimano are losing their edge. Try getting warranty on a rod -must return for eval before getting a yes/no. We used to turn in for a fast local replacement or local repair. Money/money/money!!!

Shimano has gotten too large as have others. I have found both Shimano and Diawa reels fall apart on me anymore. I recently tried a smaller shop called Ardent. They make their reels in the USA. The quality seems pretty good and they are a dream to fish with. I picked up the ardent edge elite and probably wont go back to anything else. The day i got it, i sent my Diawa Tierra out the door to get repaired and haven't seen it back.

Its pretty much par for the course when an org gets too large, they outsource, parts get cheaper, its all about cutting costs and increasing profits. I would happily pay more for something made on this shore. It always pays to pay more for a local item.

I have to disagree with you about their warranty. Yes, you have to jump through one hoop to get a rod warrantied, but I'm sure that's to avoid people abusing the warranties. I had to warranty a shimano rod this summer, 8 days turnaround time and I was fishing with my new rod, no hassle at all.
