I just received another shipment of the new Rapala Snap Rap. I cant wait to try them on quinte as they have worked well here for local eyes. I think those who are a fan of the Jigging Rap are going to love these. There are only 2 sizes 6 or 8. 8's will work well for quinte monsters and these 6's are nice for the littler guys

If they're good looking enough for Landshark then there likely hot enough for Gone Fish'in. ( he's usually got good taste) :)

Guys,

I was told the Snap Raps were going to be about impossible to get. Even those sponsored by Rapalas were having trouble getting them. Well, I ordered some from Cabelas and in less than two weeks I had eight #8 Snap Raps delivered to my door. Put your order in. They are one cool looking lure. They look like they will fall much slower than the standard jigging rapalas we are all so familiar with.

Its been said so many times and still holds true. Lures catch more Fishermen than fish. Look good but really now, when is enough enough?

Orangepeal,

I have not used a Snap Rap yet, but its design leads me to believe the lure will drop at a slower rate than the original Jigging Rapalas. The new design has a significantly larger rear planing tail. Its about 1/2" wide on the number #8 size. The new design also has a planing wing around 1/8 inch wide running down the entire length of the lure, on both sides. This wing is created by a plastic cap on the top of the lure.

A slower fall may give those less aggressive fish more time to decide to grab the lure.

I always have a Jigging Rapalas on at least one of my ice fishing rods. I have caught a lot of fish on the original design. It's no secret. They work very well on Quinte Walleye.

I am looking forward to trying out the new Snap Rap.

I'm surprised this lure wasn't designed with a rattle. Watched a video on Youtube where Italo and another fella were ice fishing on Quinte, and they had modified a Jigging Rap by gluing a rattle underneath the back wing.

Do you tip a jig like this with a minnow or just fish it plain?

For ice fishing I'd tip it with a minnow or minnow head. Maybe not necessary in open water if your rip jigging or pop jigging. I've also heard of guys cutting off the front and back hooks for ice fishing, as they tend to get caught on the ice at the bottom of the hole.

Walleye9,

I think I will try buy some small glass rattles from Canadian tire and epoxy them in the tail of the Snap Rap.

If I can get the rattles, I will take a picture and post it.

I agree, a rattle idea is an excellent upgrade, even if it did come from Italo.

I do like Hank, though. lol Bye the way, I've fished with both. That's why I like Hank.

Landshark,

I have never use livebait on a jigging rapalas. I find if you give the fish the action they want, there is no need to add any bait to the lure. I also prefer not to cut off both single hooks. I admit, I have lost fish at the hole when the lure catches the ice. But often, I catch fish on one the single hooks. I think I am ahead leaving the hooks in place and sharpening them to razor sharp. I also bend them out slightly.

I have a buddy I fish with that must have 50 jigging Rapalas with all the single hooks cut off. He swears bye the practice. He catches fish on them, but I think I catch more.

Good fishing,

Walleye9,

Here is a #8 Snap Rap with a small glass rattle glued into the tail using epoxy.

You never know, sometimes the walleye need to be called in.

Thanks for suggesting the upgrade.
Sorry about the picture quality,

The only issue we have had with adding rattles so far is having to replace them after they get crushed...
