Stainless Steel Prop

I'm contemplating getting a stainless steel prop for my 150 Merc. It's on an 18' Fischer fibreglass walleye boat. I know it will get me a bit more top end and hole bite but overall don't know if its worth it. Especially considering its pretty unforgiving on the "bottom end" if I run into something.
Any feedback would be welcome.

I have seen this question asked on other boards and the usual response is you would probably gain 3-4mph. On a fiberglass walleye boat my guess is you would want a 4 blade prop SS which will give you more lift. The other thing to consider is what size your motor can turn without under powering or over reving. It would be nice if you could get a hold of a few and try them on the water. I am guessing you need a 21P4 blade(Trophy plus).

Tiny, where u located? I got one for you to try in the spring. 21P HighFive...it'll carry the heavier walleye boat much better than the trophy, I tried the trophy before buying the highfive.....better holeshot and has unreal hold when she gets rough.

My neighbour had his stainless props off for the winter so I polished them for him, they were like a 100 sand paper and after a lot of hours I got a nice mirror finish on them. I was hoping to get him at least another 5 mph but unfortunatly the boat left with his girlfriend and we never got to see the difference.

Try a 21 pitch HIGH 5 with that combo. Thats the same boat as a Targa 1900 or a Starcraft Citori. A lot of guys ran 4 blades with there 200 hp setup with that hull but with a 150 I would go to a 5 blade for the hole shot and rough water stability. My buddy tried a 23 pitch HIGH 5 with his 200 opti and never went back to his 4 blade again.

Hi all.
I have been off the board for a while, and am a new member.
It's great to to see the winter action is going strong.
On the topic of stainless steel props. I have an 18.2 profisher. I was not real happy with it after I bought it as it never did what the people who built it said it would do. I got rid of the alum prop right away and found that those selling SS props will let you try any number of configurations and pitches to get it right. After 5 props I found for my boat a 4 blade merc prop Increased my speed by four mph on the GPS and more importantly made the ride so smooth I couldn't believe I was in the same boat. I should have mentioned I run a 90 Honda. My fishing partner has a Lund Pro Angler 17.5 with a Honda 90 and with my SS prop it made no differance ride or speed wise which I think shows you really have to find the right prop for the boat. As I said most dealers will give you the oppotunity to try many differant props, the cost being around 1000.00 give some or take some, it is an investment. I would try a five blade for your application just to start and see where it goes.
Just remember if you ding a rock, stump, or deadhead with a stainless prop you will likely ruin the drive shaft and the crankshaft as SS has no give.
