Quinte Fishing

Went though more gas than I wanted today.

Picked up some bait in Napanee. Headed out to
Huffs since there were reports of fishing being
caught. There about 3:15, no one in sight. Could
see a portable hut and two guys fishing at Quick
Short Road on the opposite side of Long Reach.

Where do you park at Huffs? There are No Parking
signs everywhere. One big sign said "No parking on
road right of way". Decided to move on since I wasn't
in the mood to explore new ice by myself or get towed.

Moved down to Sherman's point boat ramp. Still
no one. Looked across into Hay Bay, no one.

Went back to Napanee then over to Deseronto. 6-7
guys out from Bridge ramp. Went out myself around
4:00. Hooked onto good one within 15 minutes. 10 lber.
Saw two others caught within 30 minutes. Had one other
bump.

Safety in numbers today, never be the last guy on the
ice at the end of the day.

Hey, thanks for the great report! How much ice was at the bridge? Do I need my water wings just in case.

It was not good. 3-4 inches of good ice where I was.
Pretty sure it could be in the 1" near the center where
the current is the worst.

Someone joked with me, "Should have left the
power auger at home".

I think the auger may have taken 5 seconds to get though.

Real wings might be better than Water Wings. The ice was
good where I was. 50 to 100 feet further might be insanely
thin.

Again there were many people fishing with me and I had the
appropriate safety equipment with me. It's not quite as extreme
as scaling a mountian without a rope.

At huffs if the ice is thick enough, you can park on the ice at the end of the road. I've done this for years. We drove out on Simcoe this sunday and everyone seemed to be driving on the ice and some even drove right across. 15 - 24" But how about the thickness there?

There were no tracks out onto the ice, even close to shore.
My truck is 5900 lbs. I'm 225 and I would not even walk out.

Is there anywhere we can park at Huffs legally?

When they say no parking on Right of Way, that means
no parking anywhere to me. The right of way is probably
66 feet wide since the roads appear to be plowed by the
township.

What about parking on River Road and walking down. Do
people do this?

Hey Batman, thanks for the report back on ice condition. As for Huffs I have parked along river road at the top and walked down, just save some energy for that walk back up because its one hell of a climb.Thats another good reason to keep the small ones for eating, the big ones just add too much weight to the sled.Good Luck!

You can park on the right hand side of the road going down towards the lake. I have parked there for years without any problems. If heavy snow starts the plow doesn,t hit that road till well after the snow stops. If the ice is good I too will park on the ice just to leave more room for cars without 4-wheel drive. I have never had any problems just stay away from the house and his driveway

Batman, We where out by the bridge last night, 5-6" of ice maybe half way out, 24 people out last night. Seen 4 fish caught, all legal size. Tight lines. LM

boys was out at huffs am no hits about 7 to 8"" going back tomorrow . talked to a fella on the way in said there was fish caught night before. caught some nice fish at wolfes lake last week
