John,
In the last few years it seems every bait shop anywhere
near Kingston has closed. There was one in Millhavan that
closed last year to many peoples disappointment. There
was one in the village of Bath, it also closed from what I see.
I am not familar with the Thompsons point bait shop. There
are many small spots (home run) during the summer but are
always closed during the winter.
For the Kingston area all the spots I get bait are long drives,
usually on the way to where I'm fishing though.
Batersea Bait in Batersea (Great Golden shiners for Bass in
Summer) they have muds now. Bakers bait in Napanee. They
have good minnows but are 1-2 dollars more a dozen than in
Deseronto. Moons Bait in Deseronto always has muds and are
usually the best deal. He doesn't count each minnow the way
they do at Bakers Bait. Mr. Moon is dozen is typically more than
a bakers dozen. (That's a joke if you missed it)
I buy alot and put them in a very large container with aeration.
Always get rid of dead minnows quick and change half the water
on a regular basis and you can keep minnows a long time. I do
feel that if you water is not fresh and the water really smells
unpleasant, then the walleyes won't like them. Sometimes, I do
feel fresh bait catches more fish.
Good Luck finding bait,
BATMAN
