Finally got a semi decent weekend on the bay after a few years of bad ice fishing trip, so I thought I'd provide a report since I'm always lurking.

5 of us headed out for the weekend. After a couple years of discouraging results at our usually spots, we opted to try just of Deseronto, After almost 3 hours of nothing, we decided to go back to our regular area, since at least we'd have a bit of confidence there.

After breakfast we finally got out and started fishing about 11:30. by 12:30 we had landed two about 20-21", and lost a duker just below the hole. I was really suprised by the midday activity. At about 1:30, my father landed the largest fish of the weekend and his personal best , an awesome 13.7 lber. About an hour later, I land my personal best, 12.7! After that we only had one more hit at about 5:30, another big fish lost at the hole.

Sunday was similar, but without the size, we landed 7 fish, and lost 3 others. 5 of the fish were slots, from 20-24", and two were in the 27-28" range.

All told the five of us were 11 for 16, with all the fish being released.

We were fishing 20-22' of water, all fish caught on minnow tipped Cleos. The bite was very non-aggressive. I believe the fish would suck in the spoon as it settled, and all we would feel would be a slight head movement.

What really surprised me was the lack of Perch. In the last few years, we couldn't drop a bait down there without it being pestered by perch. I think we had under 5 perch bites all weekend. Anybody experienecing something similar?

I'm waiting for the pictures now!!

Later,
Charles

The was lots of ice. 8-14" depending where you drilled. Small areas with no snow pack had 14", other areas that were insulated with a few inches of snow pack only had about 8".

As for the area.... sworn to secrecy 10 years ago. Sorry.

hi fishman , I drilled a few holes and found from 6 to 10 inches of ice depending on where I was in the current . It was good , solid ice though.
I guess some guys aren't as picky about ice as there were several cars & trucks out there . Not for me !! 8O
