Mac,

No doubt that boat will do well, especially with the Yamaha. I can't say enough about those engines as I feel that they are the best on the market

One more month and you may be able to enjoy a bit of ice fishing out there as well unless we get some freakishly warm weather.

I'll probably see you out on the bay next fall - is your boat black/grey or the blue/grey model?

Ice fishing is as alien to me as moon walking...lol. Not done in the UK at all as a rule. But who knows, first 'construction' this fall may be an Ice hut on a sled! 8)

My boat is Black/grey and look forward to seeing you (and everyone else) out there later this year :wink:

I have the same boat and 115 yamaha 4 stroke with a n 8 hp high thrust yahama kicker which works great trolling for pretty much anything.I also have it rigged with seperate controls, power tilt and of course , electric start. It's a fantastic combo.

Thanks for the info. I take it that your kicker motor is a long shaft (20") :?:

Yes, it is a long shaft. I started with a 9.9 tiller on the back but I quickly found out that that the boat is too big to try steering with a tiller.I then traded it for the 8 high thrust remote and connected it with the 115 using a $50 connecting rod. By leaving the 115 down a little it makes the steering much easier. You can also tap into the main fuel line so you don't have to carry the little tank on board.Hope this helps you out.

John, i also have a 17' Mr. Pike and have 9.9 4 stroke mercury as a kicker. Seems to work fine for most of my trolling speeds, however, for the Bay type of trolling where they are using the Usiks at .5, I add a bag, otherwise, have no problem. What ever kicker you pick i would highly recommend the TrollMaster Pro speed control. It is a remote control run by a little electirc motor attached to the throttle rod and then the control is at the console, you can adjust speed a .1 mile per hour by a turn of the dial or instant full throttle if you need it. The link below will take you to the item at Cabelas, I bought mine directly from the maker but i cant find his website again. Believe me it is well worth the $200 investment, lots of the pros use it. Easy to install to. Best add on that I have on my boat, besides the 9.9 kicker.

I forgot to add, kicker is steered by rod attached from 9.9 to 90 4 stroke, and, I also have fuel line coming directly from the tank to the kicker rather than wye off main motor line. This gives me a back up fuel connection as well as not having to constantly have to get up to change the connection back to main motor.
