Hi Everyone,
I was out on Sunday and noticed that the water was flowing the opposite way it should have been. It started out in the afternoon going in(moving west towards the rivers) which I thought was very strange as the water normally flows out to the lake. Around 3:30 it changed from heading west to heading east(out towards lake Ontario). Did anyone else notice this? what would it be from? just curious.

Hello Dan,
Yes I was over by Pete's point. It was really strange and have never noticed this before.

This will be hard to believe but there is a small tide like movement in the bay more noticeable in a windy situation but the rise and fall could be quite a few inches at times. We have been cottaging at the end of Hay Bay for quite a few decades and can attest to this.

The Napanee R. by the falls is a great place to see this movement in action. Cottager is correct, but I am still waiting to see something more written or studyed (and some folks love a good study...lol).

Cottager hit the nail on the head. A guy I know at the MNR said that wind in the bg lake can set up currents pretty easy, particulrly a strong east wind. You can bet the guys at the west end of lake ontario notice a rise in their water levels when ours fall and vise-versa. The only concern with this this is when fish are spawing real shallow as the tide effect can leave eggs high and dry.

Hi Don,
Pete's Point is directly accross from the hospital in Belleville, There is a small access from the "county" side.
