Quinte Fishing

Got out at approx. 7:30am and hit a six pounder on ripplin redfin about five minutes into it off Thompson's in that sixty foot hole. Rigger was set at 24 feet. Swung the boat around went back through in same direction, hit another one reeled it in felt like a log. Got it to the side of the boat and lost it, got a good look at it though and it was massive. Hard time setting hooks because of long leads with riggers. I read a post by Mike on Oct31-Nov3 and I would like to be the first to say yeah right. I'm not a pessimist but come on. 34 walleye in two days this time of year from one boat! Did you have a hundred lines out, or a net? I've lived here all my life and have never heard of a catch like that. You can't divulge your spot either, what exactly does that mean? Is it because you don't know any? Give me the number of your dealer because he must have the good stuff! By the way I got blown off the water after that lost fish and I launched at Green Point and talked to the guy who lives beside the launch and I told him about the six pounder and he told me he bought a six pounder from the commercial fishermen!!!!! I told him there was no walleye commercial fishery on the bay, to which he replied the guy had buckets and buckets of walleye big 12 and 13 pounders!!!! What the hell? Anybody know about this? Indians with nets in Telegraph?

That many fish in 2 days is not that hard to believe.I have had a 31 fish day with 4 guys.26 fish for 2 guys( one of the guys was Bill Tripp from Belleville so you can ask him if it's true.) I have had many 20 plus fish days on the bay. First hint...get away from the riggers. Second hint.....stop fishing only for the fish you can see on your sonar. (I just told you a lot if you read between the lines.) My base line for what I consider a good fall day on Quinte is 10 fish minimum.15 is excellent and 20 is phenomenal. Keep trying new thing and read some Walleye In-sider articals on Port Clinton PWT tourneys for insight on how to catch Quinte fish.

If you are <b>bitchin',</b> then you will have <b>Detractors</b> - those who doubt you and say bad things about you.

It is entirely possible they caught as many fish as they did that weekend. If so, they are <b>exceptionally bitchin' indeed.</b>

Especially since nobody else was catching fish.

On November 18, 1999 I caught <b>nineteen fish <i>by myself!</b></i>

Miracles can and do happen.

To catch that many fish on those dates would have been miraculous indeed.

Just to confirm with you all that I have no reason to lie and we did land 30 fish plus 4 lost at the boat. The reason I haven't revealled the spot is because we fish for two days (Thurs and Fri) with only one fish. We changed our technique and location and we were rewarded with a bunch of fish on Sat and Sun. During Saturday and Sunday there was 2 charter boats and 3 other boats in the same area. I am not sure how they did as we stayed out longer they them but I am sure they were on fish. The charter boats typically don't fish the same area for 4 or 5 hours if they are not getting fish.

Charlie Wray did a show on the Bay of Qunite and we used information from his show to help us out.

I take my hat off to you boys, you should be on the pro tour. I too have caught a ton of fish in one day, not this fall though. Nobody is catching a ton. When the south wind brings in the whitecaps I'll take my downriggers but thanks for all the 'expert' opinions. Give your other techniques a try when the three to four footers are rolling in, which has been seemingly every day this fall. Like I said I've lived here all my life and if you come down here and have a miraculous day or days good for you, but you didn't have it this fall. This is an info board let's hear how you slayed them 'expert'.

As for downriggers, ask a charter captain on Lake Erie how much less effective downriggers have become since the zebra mussles showed up.A lot of them don't even use them any more.I think half the reason that most charter guys on quinte even run the rigger is that it makes the job of running 6 plus lines a lot easier and it covers the occasional possibility of catching one of those really deep fish.

Some guys are doing well this year I know. The fish are in funny locations this year as I am just finding out myself.It's just starting.

My dad and I are headed out tomorrow, the only decent-looking day weather-wise this week. After that I am caving in Kentucky for a week, and then heading down south on a Caribbean cruise.

I'm not sure which part of the story you are referring to Dogboat. Dipsies are the go to choice for Erie and I have tried them on Quinte with some great success in September. However there are at least 3 deep diving crankbaits on the market that I know of that will dive to 40 plus feet without added weight.99.999999999 % of Quinte fish that are active will be caught within 40 feet of the surface in any depth of water.Can anyone name the 3 baits I am refering to?

P.S. Leadcore is even stealthier than a dipsey and will attain in excess of 70 feet depths with the right setup and speed.

Report for Nov. 12 - 17

Gill nets are in Telegraph Narrows. No fish. Trolled near Cement Plant to Glenora. One 6.5 and a large pike 22 ft down over 65 ft flatlinning and boards. Graph looked very similar to Lake Ont. when salmon fishing. Pods of bait with large hooks (15-45 ft down in 40-100 ft of water).

Very good of you to pick up the Bible Al.It is a phenomenal tool isn't it.I have started photo copying the individual pages and then getting them laminated. Then I tape them with packing tape to the inside on the lid of the box for that specific bait. Quick reference considering I usually have that box out when I am fishing a particular bait.

Did you have to look in the book for the answaers or did you have them memorized? Be honest now.
