I figured it was time to drag the little guys out of bed for their first turkey hunt of the year. We set-up the blind and decoys at the crack of dawn and settled in. About 15 minutes later, we had our first visitor in the form of a blonde coyote checking out the coys for breakfast. Once he figured it out and went on his way, I let out the first call. It didn't take long for a pair of toms to start gobbling from the far side of the field. I soon had their attention and started calling them in.
We had a great show the pair came across the field gobbling and strutting all the way. The boys held still like statues the whole time just grinning and watching. I eyed the pair up and figured they were twins so picked the nearest of the two and scoped him out. The #6's did their job at 40 yards and the boys ran over to claim our bird.
He weighed in at 20 lbs and a 8.25" beard. Not much for spurs as one side was broke off and the other was around 3/4".
The little guys had a great time and just being out there with there was the highlight for me.
