Hello,
Just put a radio in the boat. Was wondering what channels every one runs out on lake O. Also is the 16 channel the emergency channel?

Hi Fred. Typically you'll find everyone uses 71 for general chatter. 16 is the emergency and or calling channel. You should look into getting your ROC. Its a good course and will teach you alot about the radio. (and keep you legal)

I second the post about taking the radio course, it could save your life. About 15 years ago I heard a call"help motors quit and the boats taking on water" I thought whats with that? The fishing was slow so I went for a look, with no idea where he was (out of Bowmanville) we found him and the other 8 guys clinging to a 28 foot boat with just the bow sticking out of the water. Called for additional help and thankfully boats came from everywhere. After we were all on shore I talked to the "charter captain" if he had a radio licence and surprise he did not. I pointedly asked him how he could take people out for money and not know how to use his radio.

Having a radio and not having your Roc is like taking the wife fishin. Lots of chatter and no help when you need it! :)

Take the Radio Course from Power Squadron and you will be coverd from all things legal about VHF radios and their operation.

Yes, the alphabet is Able Baker Charlie - Roger Fox Dogs (some one talking mean about Roger-LOL)

The previous advise is sound and logical.

I'm not sure as I've never been in the military but the phonetic alphabet is on the test. Its not often used that i've heard but its good to know. Its not a hard course to pass they power squadron guys and girls are really good and you'll get alot out of the course.

Got looking at this course. No courses close to Kingston. Being on Lake O. you'd think there would be. Strange.

I just took the course in kingston, I see they do not have a new date yet for another course though. It's through Kingston power and sail squadron, Mike Hill was the instructor

For Prince Edward Squadron call Dave 613 476 2371. If we can get enough people together he would probably do a course. For that matter I think any squadron would do any of the courses at almost any time if they could get a good size class together.
