Just spent 12 days fishing in the Bay and found it to be very slow. The Walleyes were almost non existent compared to the previous 14 years I've fished the Bay area. Any ideas as to why things were so slow?

We mainly fished the area off from Fosters Fishing Center down to the Skyway Bridge. We used worm harnesses while trolling and drifting when we could. This has been a great area in the past but not very productive this year.

Well you are not alone...it has been slow. Even checking another site that is US based the anglers are reporting things very slow on the walleye side. For me fishing out of Kingston we have not found a lot of weed growth where we usually have it. I don't know if this is because of the zebra mussels or not.

I have fished from north port to fosters 6 times this year. First weekend caught 16, second trip caught 4. Third trip caught 2 Forth and fifth trip caught 1 and sixth trip caught 17. I only caught a few trolling, usually trolling with a blue fox is amazing. This year it has been more of the slow approach. 1/8th to 1/2 oz jig head with a jig and must have a small piece of worm on it. I do find size to be down. I hope it is just the late spring, when we were catching them on may 10th, they still had eggs in them.

The MNR historic data has always shown the fishing dies in June but starts to pick up by the end of the month. They state that this slow time always coincides with the arrival of the annual june shad spawn. Given the colder spring i would guess things are that much more behind. I have heard of a few guys having amazing (15-20 fish) days but in very small concentrated areas just off of deeper weedlines using a dropshot with live bait (worms, leeches) and just slow drifting

We fished the Bay ( Big Bay area) from 6/15 till 6/22) 4 guys in two boats and only netted 2 fish for the week--and these were caught deep in the weed bed's of Muscote Bay slow jiging in weed pockets--- even the Pike and Bass were relunctant to hit--only fight was a 15lb sheepshead caught off of Grape Island--- The Shad were in the bay breaking water all over, I always thought this was a lodge owners excuse for slow fishing-- after 40 years on the Bay I am a believer------ Cheers newenglandboy

Guys, the shad runs this year are close to record breaking and thus slow fishing. That's why even the bass and pike are slow right now. This slowdown would normally occur in early June so those that planned trips later in June are now the one's being adversely affected by the spawn. The weather cycle has everything approx. 3 weeks behind. The fishing's been slow in the big lake for trout and salmon and we're starting to wonder if the tremendous amount of alewife is contributing. Fish we've caught have been loaded with 'em. Hopefully, things pick up out there soon!
