Hey Guys,

I have and easy 300 plus boar on the trail cam that keeps hitting the bait on a regular basis, the unfortunate thing is he had mange on the back half of his body pretty bad. I've been researching it a bit and from what some say is to be very carefull handling it and not to eat it for obvious reasons. One site even said if you do harvest it that you can take it to the MNR and they'll issue you a new tag, anyone had something like this happen yet?
His front half is really nice a full looking and would make for a great mount, not sure to shoot or let him walk. He definitely not camera shy, always going right up to the camera. He's fairly aggressive from the 200 plus pictures I have of him already, chasing other bears off, diving on the barrel and digging in an almost rage like manor. Another thing I wonder, does mange make them more aggressive?
Any input is appreciated, if I knew how to post a picture here I would

Curious to see the pictures. There is a thread on how to post them in the tips and tricks section right near the top and I think a couple other threads as well you can try searching for. If you still have questions, send me a PM and I'll help you out.

As to your question, I've never heard of mange and bears before , but hopefully someone knows a thing or two. As for the tag, your safest bet is to call or e-mail the MNR yourself and ask about the tag.

I'll try to figure out how to post them tonight. MNR emailed me back saying it's fairly common in bears and to handle it carefully when field dressing. Told me to wear long sleeve shirt and rubber gloves. Also said no extra tags get issued that's only in the States he's heard of that. It's going to be hard to pass him up as he's the biggest I've had on the camera yet

If u decide u want to save your tag for a full skin and would like someone to legally harvest him, let me put my request in now as I do like to hunt and do not keep or mount any skins. I will remove the boar as quietly as a crossbow will and clean him well away from your area.

I appreciate the offer but I have 3 different bears coming in now and it hasn't even been a full week yet. If I can figure out the picture posting on here I will have one up shortly. A guy in here said I can upload from photobucket, just need to play around with it to figure it out

You can also edit your pictures in Paint and reduce the size using "Image" then "stretch\skew" to just under 600 pixels. I divide 600 by the smaller picture pixel and reduce by a percentage. IE. a 4360x3240 picture is reduced by 600/3240 = 0.185 or 18% in both horizontal and vertical. Save the smaller picture in your folder. Then use the attach file section at the bottom of the page (scroll down, you'll see it) Use the browse button to find your saved picture, then add the file from there. Once it is added, you can place in-line in your thread where you want.

Here you can see the mange and scars for a fight I'm guessing

Kindof strange seeing a bear with no pants on. 8O

Will be starting a couple of baits close north this weekend and a couple far north mid-Aug, looking for action there within 3 days. Weekends are filling up fast with hunting activities. :D

Good luck he does look like a nice bear otherwise.

I had both these guys within 3 days, 1st time up 67 pics for 2 days, went back the very next day to check because I heard them fighting and had 71 pics. I went back 2 days later and nothing but 27 pics of coons trying to get into it. Going in tomorrow again to bait and set a second stand

Hey Brian

I guess you've been baiting by now, anything hitting the baits yet?

Our 2 baits are getting hit like crazy. 80lbs of deer feed each bait each week since the long weekend in August. Just put cameras up last weekend. Will post pics of our setups and hopefully the results of the weekend hunting next week. :)

Awesome, hope you guys get one or more. Good Luck!! My bears have gone on vacation for the last 12 days for some reason. I've gone through 60 lbs of popcorn, too many cakes to even guess, 100lbs of deer feed, 40 litres of molasses, 5 chicken carcasses, 40lbs of dog food and at least 300lbs of apples. I had bears every day for 3 1/2 weeks now nothing at all. The berries are in, in the hundreds right now so hoping they have just moved to them for a bit. Weather looks crappy for opener but I'm going out either way.

After all that, maybe you fattened them up for winter and they already hibernated.
