Hi everyone, just posting this to let everyone in the Quinte Region know that the OBN will be bringing it's annual Hank Gibson Qualifier to Trenton for 2013! The qualifier was held out of Belleville I believe in 2005, I am very excited that it is coming back to one of the best bass fisheries in Southern Ontario!

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
2013 OBF Hank Gibson Qualifier Tournament
TORONTO, Ontario (January 17, 2012) - Through a joint effort among Hawgtown, York and Port Perry Bassmasters, we are very excited to announce that the 2013 Hank Gibson OBN Qualifier will be held on the Bay of Quinte.

A detailed press release is in the works, but for everyone's vacation planning and tournament schedule planning we are very happy to announce the following:

Date - August 24-25
Location - Bay of Quinte - Bay only
Launch site - Quinte West (formerly known as Trenton) - Buster Alyea Park

The organizing committee is currently working with Quinte West, local sponsors, CFB Trenton and other organizations to make this a qualifier to remember! The Qualifier will be the event of the season, not only for the camaraderie but also for the fact that it is the beginning of the road to the Bassmaster Classic! For any anglers wishing to learn more and how to become eligible for this tournament please feel free to contact the OBN executive listed on ontariobass.com. or your local BASS club president. Also, feel free to complete and submit an information request here http://ontariobass.com/become-a-member/.

A note to all CSFL anglers: For those of you that will qualify to fish The Bay of Quinte the following weekend at the Regional Cup, the OBN Provincial Qualifier is a 'not for profit' event and as a result anglers fishing the Qualifier will not be disqualified from the CSFL Regional Cup. The Pallotta's are very strong supporters of the OBN and encourage all OBN anglers to participate in this event!

Hey Everyone,

Please see below for an update on this years OBN Qualifier BASS tournament being held out of Trenton, ON (August 23-25). Some of the info below pertains only to BASS members competing in the event, but we are doing much more than just hosting a tournament this weekend. We are putting on a Soldiers fishing tournament to give back to the folks at CFB Trenton, and we are also having a kids fishing day on Saturday, August 24th. We are trying to turn this tournament into an event that local anglers and non-BASS members can enjoy as well. We have lots of stuff to give away to the kids on the saturday and are very much looking forward to this event!

The OBN is province wide and is always accepting new members. To compete in this tournament you must be a BASS member and join a local OBN club prior to June 30th. If you have any questions fire me a message or post for the masses.

UPDATE
Official Hotel

Travelodge has come on board as the official host hotel(s) of this years Qualifier. Not only have they stepped up with a special rate for us, they've given all OBN members the special rate for the entire summer! With all the pre-fishing and club events that have already been planned by many clubs, this extended rate plan will definitely save the membership some serious dollars. Details to follow......

"Take A Soldier Fishing" event

What can I say about this event aside from it very well may be the highlight of the week-end! We have several updates in the works that we can't share as of yet but I can say the planning has gone flawlessly to date.
One update that I can share with you all is that Simax Rods has come on board as the official rod sponsor of the 'Take A Soldier Fishing' event. Every single soldier participating in this event will receive a rod from Simax! This is an incredible sponsorship from Simax Rods as there could be 30-40 soldiers participating! Also.....the top 5 Anglers in our Sr. Qualifier will receive a rod from Simax!

Kids event

Rapala has stepped up as an official sponsor of the kids event out of OG Buster Alyea Park. Rapala has stepped up huge with rods/reel combos (60), hats, baits, etc and will also be donating some goodies for the Soldiers event.
We have a couple more exciting announcements for the kids event that hopefully we can share with you all shortly.

Friday Night Meeting

Location - Royal Canadian Legion #110 which is right beside OG Buster Alyea Park. Food and registration start at 5pm with the meeting starting at 6pm. Food details to follow.
Note: The OBN Tournament Director and Exec have deemed this meeting mandatory and if you plan of fishing the Qualifier you MUST be at the meeting. From my understanding, the 'Mandatory' aspect of the meeting will be enforced this year.

Qualifier Shirts

As always, official qualifier shirts will be on sale at the Friday night meeting. This year the shirts will be designed and provided by Fishbum! Can't wait to see the final design.

Official Marina

Bay Marine in Trenton has stepped up to the plate and become the official Marina of the Qualifier. We are finalizing all the exact details but please expect an 'OBN Spring Tune-Up Special', an on-site mechanic for the Qualifier, preferential service treatment during Qualifier and pre-fish, special deals on oils and accessories. When the exact details are finalized, another e-mail will follow......

A request to all clubs......

The Qualifier Committee is asking all clubs to please, pretty please get entries in early.....NOW please. We need to assess the early bird entries to help determine the amount of volunteers needed, budgeting dollars, Soldiers event anglers, etc.
With the buzz that has been created for this Qualifier, we're expecting an increase in field size and the early bird entries will be a key tool we need to use. Please get your club entries in ASAP!!!!

Thanks Steve - I agree.

The decision was unanimous amongst the organizers for many reasons:
- OBN is a grass roots organization, many anglers have smaller crafts, so running to the big lake is not an option for many
- Safety
- Stick to the Bay! Lots of fish and someone has to win no matter where we go!
- Last but far from least, late August and high water temps in the bay could lead to big lake smallie fatalities, which no one wants.

Really though I am looking forward to the Soldiers / Junior event more than anything else! And hopefully some of the Quinte Fishing members can bring their young ones out to the Kids day on saturday, we've already got lots of great prizes to hand out!

More details will follow throughout the spring / summer. If anyone has any questions on how to join drop me a PM or respond to the thread, I'd be happy to help.

that is something that too many tournies on quinte overlook.

thanks for not 'overlooking'. :)

Hey Everyone,

Just posting to give you all a heads up that the OBN "Quinte Quest" weekend is almost upon us (this Friday, Saturday and Sunday). We have hit our goal of 200 anglers, and will be the biggest OBN qualifier in recent memory!

The Take a Soldier Fishing and Juniors Championship Tournament will start the weekend off on Friday, running from 7am - 2pm. We have had a huge armada of volunteer boaters step up for this, to summarize we have almost 50 boaters donating a days worth of valuable prefishing time to take 54 active CFB Trenton soldiers along with 25 Juniors fishing for the day. This is what makes the OBN membership so great! Come on out to the weigh-in at 2pm at Buster Alyea Park in Trenton.

Saturday we will have numerous booths set up in the park, and a FREE kids fishing event will take place from 12noon until 2pm. Bring your rods if you have them, otherwise one will be supplied. Kids will fish for various prizes. Everstart Batteries as well as WalMart have stepped up huge for this to provide entertainment (3 bands playing on stage), FREE hot dog lunch, slushies, cotton candy, popcorn etc. Bring the kids out and stick around for the pro's weigh-in starting at 3pm.

On Sunday Everstart and other vendors will be set up once again in case you missed out on Saturday. The weigh-in will commence once again at 3pm.

We have placed adds in the local Belleville and Trenton papers this week, look for more details there or go to Ontariobass.com on the tournament page.

Hope to see some of the local contingent out to the park, it promises to be a great event!

The weights were bigger than expected to qualify, I figured 27.5 over 2 days would get you onto Team Ontario, but the cut weight was 29.3! Remember that these are individual weights, each angler in a boat fishes for their own 5 fish.

A note to the walleye guys on the board, during my prefish I caught a number of walleyes in the 2.5 - 5 pound range on various baits, but the best one was a Rapala DT 10 on the weedlines throughout the bay, seemed to be everywhere!

It was announced Friday night that next years qualifier will be hosted by the Ottawa Valley Bassmasters on Big Rideau lake, can't wait for that one, beautiful area and great people up there.
