I believe there are a few of those factors that you listed that was the problem. With the water temp you would think that they are still spawning but when we had that really warm spell I think they got the spawn over with real quickly. Remember a couple of days last week before the opener we had some really cold nights and frost on the ground which changed the temp pretty fast. Also because of the temp of the water there is absolutly no weed growth yet and no weed growth means there are no small fish feeding which means there are no bigger fish(walleye) feeding on them. Like everybody else we marked a tonne on fish in 35ft of water off of Mass. Pt. but they would not hit anything. I think they will remain in that depth until the water gets warmer with some weed growth. Walleye just won't cruise in fairly shallow water (10-14ft) when it is that clear, they need some cover. Hopefuuly within the next month we will get some really warm weeks, get some weed growth and then they will turn on. Good luck to everybody this summer. Just because they eliminated the slot size doesn't mean we can all of sudden fill our bellys with those prime spawners. Lets still think conservation.
