Hi all.
I took the family to Wellers Bay for the opener and the derby put on by Wellers Bay Camp. The Derby was very well organized and we were made to feel at home in the campground.
The weather was great and made for easy boat control.
We managed to boat 4 pike, unfortunately one was to small. we were pulling gold rogues and spinners trying to catch Walleye however it was nice to just catch something. There were five walleye caught and weighed in, and these are the weights going from memory so I might be a little off, 6.88/5.12/3.55/3.3/1.65. I managed to see the 2 big eyes at weigh in and sure got excited.
There seemed to be quite a few Pike caught I don't recall how many and they seemed to be scattered all over the bay. We caught ours in 13 to 15 feet of water on the south and east side. The weights were roughly 5.25/5.1/4.96/4.96 and then most in the 3 to 3.5 range. we managed 4.96/3.88/3.44. The number of prizes given was tremendous and it sure made it fun for the kids. We have never been to Wellers Bay before but we will be there next opener for sure.
There was a family staying beside us that were in the Kiwanis tourney and they managed 2 Walleye on Saturday night one .65 and one 6.5 on a yozuri silver blue combo.
I am sure that many more fish were caught but that is all that I saw.
Good fishing to everyone this season.
Cheers Clark
