Hey there,

I'm new to Belleville area, just looking for a spot to do some fly fishing for Salmon. What's my best bet? I know about all the spots, but I was wondering if someone could give me some pointers on where I can fly fish in the river for Salmon without hooking someone fishing next to me.

Not looking for a secret spot, not a snagger and I practice catch and release. Just want to know where I can wet a line and catch a salmon as I never have before.

Figured I would ask.

Thanks folks, nice forum,

Mitch

Let me rephrase that, I dont know all the spots, otherwise I wouldnt be asking. I meant I am aware of some of the major rivers in which the Salmon run.

Thanks!

Cold creek has a fly fishing only section... however you are unlikely to be fishing for salmon in it.

Trent river in Meyersburg would also be another great spot to wade/fly fish for pickeral, bass etc. Just park @ the red barn on hwy 30 and walk down to the river.

Good Luck!

Salmon will be in the moira and trent by the middle of Oct more than likely. They never mirror the direct lake Ontario tribs, probably due to the warmer water in the shallow bay. Once the water cools they will head up or if the water starts running high may trigger them. Right now you can probably walk across the moira. You can tell when they are in the trent by just watching for them jumping in the whirlpool.

I have fly fished for trout at the no 1 dam in belleville in late October and November with streamers before, although not in the last 10 years.

Hey guys , new to the forum.
I am a bit confused about the seasons at the #1 dam in Trenton. How long are we allowed to fish there?, are there species specific seasons ? is it open all year or not?
I would like to clarify this as it is a good place to fish.
Thanks

From Glen Miller Rd/Sidney St. in Trenton west is Zone 17, East is Zone 18... Everything from the shore (up to #1 dam/#1 lock) and PEC is Zone 20... Get your seasons from: http://www.mnr.gov.on.ca/en/Business/Le ... 63615.html

More to your question, in the comments (exceptions) it states that from #1 dam and #1 lock to the south side of the Dundas St. bridge is a fish sanctuary from 01 April until the Friday before the 1st Saturday in May...

Hey Glen,
Are you able to get flyline ?
i need some RIO -SWITCH CHUCKER 7WT FLY LINE for my g loomis switch rod. Its very specific just came out in August.
I would also be interested in some MOW tips as well. 1 floating / 1 sinking
if so can you price me on it?
I hate making trips to the GTA for this stuff.
Phil

One more question.... okay maybe two.
Do steelhead run the Moira river? if so is it a good run and does it happen in the fall?
Is the salmon run any good on the Moira?
And what about any browns ? and when?
That was more than two questions but i am curious.
Thank you for your help.
Trying to wade in and catch them in the trent is just nuts...Lotta current and big water.
