Any recommendations for a transducer angler for a Vex Fl18? My old one is giving me problems as I have to turn the gain way up to see my lure. Not sure whether to go with the 19 or 9 (pro view) degree.

Bowfin,

Depends how deep you usually fish.

Some examples:

In 30 ft with a 9 deg your area coverage is 4.7 ft diameter at bottom.
In 30 ft with a 19 deg your area coverage is 10 ft diameter at bottom.

In 100 ft with 9 deg your area coverage is 15.7 ft diameter at bottom.
In 100 ft with 19 deg your area coverage is 33.5 ft diameter at bottom.

Bottom line, I pick 19 deg for Quinte Walleye and 9 deg for lake trout in deep lakes.

My numbers came from my Vexilar manual.

Before you buy a new transducer make sure you first try the following:
1. Clean the bottom of the transducer.
2. Make sure all connections are good.
3. Make sure your batty is fully charged.
4. If your unit is in the 10 yr range, you may have a brush or LED dimming issue due to its age.
5. Check out Vexilar troubleshooting on their web page.

Good luck,
BATMAN

I'll throw it out there even though most guys DO know this ..... not uncommon to have to drill a hole 3'-5' away from the hole your jigging to account for the current your fishing in. Last weekend I was deep and had to move my transducer 3x till I got the screen/gain set to where I could see the 1/8" barrel swivel and the minnow head under my 1/2 oz. spoon

Tight Lines,
Steve
