If the moose population is down over the whole providence, but the cow population is really high in a certain wildlife management area, they will issue extra cow tags for that one area.

Hi guys, just picked up link from Razerback on moose tags, and guaranteed group tags being allotted
This year. I was shocked to see area 05 guaranteed bull tags reduced to zero tags, guaranteed cow
tags to be issued 8, total bull tags issued for area. 5 is 63' and 64 for cows. Area 5 ois one of the biggest
wildlife management areas in the province. I've hunted area 5 for over 50 years and found last year to
be one of the best yet. In a one week period we saw 13 moose, so I don' t think we have a shortage.
As most moose hunters know calf hunting in October is very difficult. I am very dissapointed in the
MNR'S decision on this one.

Holy cow............that whole area wmu's the ministry have jumped all guaranteed group sizes!! We hunted area 5 in years gone by and pretty much a couple guys would get a tag. Apparently the ministry must not like the revenue generated by the southern Ont. moose hunter going to that part of the province!! With the price of gas going the way it is the price of a moose hunt up there will be insane by the fall!! Its good to hear the moose have moved back into area 5 as the last time we were up we pretty much got ran over by deer.
