Pop into Jim Hoyle's office at Glenora and have a 30 min chat. I know he would be willing to take the time and you'll be blown away.

The commercial fishery is VERY regulated. It's incredible the paperwork they fill out.

The year over year data the MNR has from netting the same areas since the 60's is incredible. They have a very accurate and clear representation of the state of the fishery. Most anglers don't have a clue how much data and how well the MNR has their fingers on the pulse of the fishery. Seriously take 30 minutes out of your next trip and call the guys at the fisheries unit. They are very approachable and you'll be impressed.

Thanks Scott, I will definitely do that. I wasn't aware how regulated it is and I'm sure MNR staff are passionate about what they do. I have no gripes with them whatsoever. Just can't help but think (and I hope I'm wrong) that Bill 55 will ultimately be responsible for "Changes in the bay"

You've probably seen it all Pete. If anyone can put some perspective on this its you and other veterans of the bay. Hope to fish with you some day.

Had no idea this topic would receive this much attention. Interesting replies, thanks. I wasn't suggesting that there was a problem with the walleye population when I started this thread. I am one of those anglers that is guilty of fishing the same old locations year in and year out, mostly because those spots were consistent for me for so long. So the changes I mentioned are primarily in those locations. I was out Sat, and managed to catch and release one walleye.(first eye of this month, though I've caught pike consistently over the last 10days) Wally weighed 12lbs 5oz and it was exactly where it should be. :wink:
