Quinte Fishing

Laker John and I had the rods in the water at 0815 and began our search for the Athol Bay Browns. We trolled up the east side with light spoons on the shore side and and shoehorns on the deeper side, and reversing the setup on the way back towards the beach.

Swapped lures as we neared the beach and fished the shallows, continuing up the west side of the bay.

Only a couple of bottom hits with shallow running baits as we trolled past the 'launch site of the new residents of Athol Bay' ( the 41,000 new browns).

Deciding that the shallows weren't producing, we headed to deeper water and set out the lead cores and made our way towards the beach in 22- 34 ' of water. Nothing happening out there either.

Trolled back up the east shore staying in deeper water with the same negative results.

We pondered what had happened to the fish ion the area and wondered if they had relocated, make the quick drive over to Soup Harbour and trolled there for an hour with the noting happening.

The water temp in Athol Bay was 40 degs F, the beach was 44 degs F and the water in in Soup Harbour hit 45 degs F. Lots of rock to warm the water up.

Concluded out day at 1515 with an strange aroma coming from our boat, an aroma of the 'Pole Cat'.

Was checking pictures today and found some from April 18,2005 with some nice memories of a successful day, it's funny how things change, sometimes good and sometime not so good.

It's getting to the time to get ready for May 7th, so we'll see what happens in our shake-down trip next week.

PS Saw several fishing craft at the gas bar in Desronto and talked to the large Lund who were fishing crappies, they thought everything was closed and then to an angler with a Hobie, who had found a couple of browns after he launched in Athol Bay and fished towards Wellington. Nice to meet you, he knew me.

Good to hear you out and about bud. Was able to get out Wednesday last week, and both days on the weekend. Things are heating up nicely on the South Shore

We need to get you down here for some of the spring king action....it doesn't last long...but a ton of fun when its on, like it was this past weekend.
