Big deal  - just another 100 boat tournament in Quinte (or anywhere for that matter). Regardless of the payout/entry, the spinoff is the same regardless of it's B1, CSFL, OBF, CBAF etc. Quinte doesn't need any additional marketing or promotional advertising for the angling activities that are currently present on the Bay of Quinte - countless tv shows and media exposure year after year show that the region is fine. Belleville should have saved it's $$$ and spent it on other local issues.

Regardless of the city council support and the politics its a good opportunity for local guys to shine in a pretty significant tournament pot.

Couldn't agree more, Dan.

Quinte (Belleville) is an awesome place for these events.

Too bad Kingston didn't see the benefit and seek these opportunities. It seems unless it's Cork, nothing is available or is a mess trying to navigate to the weigh-in. Case in point, the Canadian Open last year, Day 3 at KRock. They removed the barriers from the running race that finished just a short time before we all headed downtown with boats in tow, and caused traffic jams. I was sure someone was going to cause a road rage incident.

I for one am looking forward to this event and hope Berkley keeps seeking other places...

Cheers

with any money being spent would be nice to see some of the boat launches fixed up and not put the funds to just one area. the more areas you have to put your boat in without wrecking things the more the money spent by anglers is spread around to business. we drive about 1.5 hours to fish quinte and stay at the motels and get fuel and food, the only problem is the launches so hopefully they will get fixed up and bring on the tournament

Boat Lauches ? I was shock when I moved to the BOQ area on the amazing amounts of great boat launches that do not cost $15 per.

I did not think this was open to the public... If it is I am in!

Now for the personal opinions ( these are strictly just my thoughts)

It will be good for the Belleville economy as I believe the up front costs will be covered through provincial or national subsidization. Which means no matter what as a tax payer we pay for it. So businesses will see an increase in sales.

Does anyone remember the world wide carp fishing tournament we declined (last year??) because we did not want to change provincial regulations to allow fishers to fish with 2 rods? That would have increased publicity and tourism at less of a cost as carp fishing is more European based and relatively newer in Canada. ( I faintly remember reading an article on this I thought about a year ago). I think the Canadian fishing market could have exploded with a tournament of this style.

Regardless I do not see this tournament being profitable this year or next year if you factor in tax payer money and Bellevilles upfront planning costs mainly dealing with infrastructure.

It is a great publicity stunt as I have only seen growth within the quinte region as long as I have lived here. I just hope the city and fish can keep up with the demand.

Overall I am glad to see Belleville tackling the fishing market.

Nah....The best tournament ever was "Battle on the Bay". All others pale by comparison.

I still pray for its revitalization.

Lol battle of the bay! Awesome. A couple things I wonder about this event are relates to the same issues the quinte fishing series has dealt with which is primarily small mouth bass. The event is scheduled for july long weekend. Many years smallies on the lake are still on beds. When the qfs had the lake open for that time of year smallie mortality at weigh in was significant. I wonder how they will handle that? Wait and see

Fish mortality comes well down the priority list I fear....nothing new there. The last thing BOQ needs is more tournaments. Dollars + greed wins out yet again

I'd be concerned if I were a Belleville tax payer. I hope there is some sort of caveat or qualification attached to your 32,000$ In terms of risk on your investment; the numbers PROmoted are unprecedented and inflated ~400% on real past multi-day events. Does anyone have access to the B1 application package that was submitted? It would be a good read.
