Apparently mice like transducer cables. My boat is stored in a portable garage in the woods. Use a spinning can bucket trap and mothballs in winter.

I can't use the bucket trap in the summer because the coons get after the peanut butter.

Anyone have success with an alternative repeating trap?

Bounce dryer sheets. And they are pet friendly.

Thanks for the suggestions. The area where the cable was chewed is enclosed. I've drilled holes in a mothball filled plastic container so it'll act like a diffuser and put it in the enclosure.

I'm looking for something to go on the ground beside the boat to thin out the herd. I was wondering about the tipping plank trap that fits on the rim of a 5 gal bucket.

Has anyone used one of those?

Never used one of those traps before Rob, but I could see the possibilities in a Monty Python skit...

I store my boat in a garage at the cottage and the little buggers chewed through the rubber on the bottom of the garage door to get in...solution: stapled red Tuck Tape (sticky side up) to a strip of 1x3 and placed along the bottom of the door inside...problem solved. You could try surrounding your boat with this setup...their little whiskers and toes get stuck to the tape and if they are lucky they escape and don't come back...if not...and most don't...well you get the picture.
Outside application I would go with Gorilla Tape or similar...I think there is also something in the chemical adhesive that acts as a deterrent.
Stole the idea from the sticky traps!

I replaced door rubber on my garage. Didn't last a day. Seen the glue traps but I'm sure I'd have to get Debbie to peel it off me.

Hate killing them but they're messing with my boat.

tomfoolery's right about the Python skit. Would have been a good one on the Holy Grail.

wires are made with a soy based insulation now to slow down the use of plastics etc...but unfortunately that is basically food for little rodents.

Never heard about the soy in the wire. Sure as you said, here's a story.

They suggest used cat litter as a deterrent.

Have to get some old nylons, pack them with cat crap and hang them around the boat.

Crazy times.

LOL..You can come over to my house and pick the Cat Crap out of the gardens, deposited there by the neighbors cats...
You're welcome to all you can carry, including the depositors...

We're thinking this has some potential as a WWF TV Series: "Rats Rile Roblin".

Possibly a long running, EMMY winning production...?

Made a couple more mothball diffusers for the boat. Put them in the rod locker and storage compartments. Hope it works.

Still working on a repeating trap. Think I might give those "walk the plank" bucket traps a try.

If I do, I'll put a game camera on it and see what happens.

We use the bucket at hunting camp with spinning wheel works great. But even better full bucket with liquid. Float sun flower seeds on top.

Moth balls and even the mouse bait don’t work. Had them in mine once and I had it loaded with both. . The bait doesn’t seam work out doors because if they have adiquate water supply it doesn’t kill them At least my experience. Guys put it out at hunting camp and we still have mice and never find a dead one other than in spinning bucket. My theories though. Sure everyone has there opinion.

I agree...Bounce sheets and mothballs don't work, there is a product that really works BUT you can't get it in Canada anymore. It is called Cab Fresh and farmers used it in their tractors when not using them for a while. Couple farmers i know swore by it and it was available at Hartington. You can get it in the US so probably call some of the farm supply places in Watertown.
