One of the things I love about fishing is you never know what you're going to catch. Deseronto has been productive for walleye since opening weekend this year, but yesterday we only caught two after four hours up and down the river.

On the other hand, we caught two species I rarely see. The first was a bowfin - my first time catching this prehistoric-looking toothy critter that can apparently gulp air when the water doesn't have sufficient oxygen. The second was a personal-best black crappie - 16 inches. Both caught on bottom bouncers with worm harnesses.

What other unexpected species have you guys caught in the BOQ system?

Starting to see more crappies being caught, they used to be fairly rare, looks like they're getting around

So far this year in the Deseronto area we've caught Bowfin [ 12 lb ] catfish [ 10 lb ] crappie [ up to 12" ] pike and lots of walleye. Yes it's been a great year!

Caught an eel off Ungers Island last week. Never took a picture. Not sure how common it is but my first in the Bay.
