Pete,

what's the scoop :?: Enquiring minds want to know :!: Well Joanne's a wuss, I wanted to go tomorrow but the minus 10 (feels like minus 16) scared her off. I was gonna see if a Fatman wanted to fish but I've unfortunately left him stranded on land as Joanne for some reason doesn't want me away where she's unable to keep an eye on me  :? Anywho, the next 2 weeks look to be in the plus temps so we should be able to make it out in the New Year. WHACK! BAM! BOOM! (picture the old Batman show with Adam West) Those are the sounds of Joanne smackin' me in the forehead as she's gotten to a certain part of my post. 8O Pete, Joanne wanted to know if you're a mechanic. Don't worry, I explained it to her. She wanted to know how you cooked breakfast sleeping on the side of a mountain? Come to think of it, do you NOT eat just so you don't have to go #2? I'd hate to have the hammock below you on the mountain :!: Anywho, fill us in......

Ken & Batgirl

P.S.

Anyone actually brave/crazy enough to go out tomorrow, bring a torch to thaw out your axle/wheel bearings. Just ask Steve-Hamilton and Jackson.

To be honest, one of the things that stopped me from going today was the fear that my axles would freeze like what happened to you guys last year (and having the boat frozen to the bunks) 8O . So if I've got bearing buddies that are greased would that ensure they didn't lock up? Never fished when it got into the minus teens.

cheers
Ken

i dont think it would ensure it....no.

but i'm hoping it'll help stop another bearing disaster. if water gets in when you launch, and then freezes during the day, say good bye to your bearing seals....

which means disaster when you start towing....

the freezing of the bunks only hurts on day two. day one shouldn't have any problems, as the boat isn't frozen to the bunks....yet. that happends at the end of day one.

so single day trips are ok......the frozen axles...i'm not sure what you can do about that.....i wish i was more mechanically inclined....we just drove slowly until it released...... :?

Gotta love Quinte in the winter. :D

I was kinda hoping Grizzly would post up, thus saving me the bother! Not only is she a wuss, Ken, but she can't read a weather report. They are forecasting balmy temps of -3 to -4C for the next 24 hours or so, perfect. However anyone who is a fan of the Real Batman is cool in my book. Heh heh - does she have a Catwoman floatsuit?

When "cooking" breakfast on the wall in the morning, I've got a hanging stove, and all you need is coffee and ibuprofen - Breakfast of Champions.

As for the fishing report, let's see if Grizz posts up for us. If not, I'll write something tonight or tomorrow for yas. Yep, they're still bitin', so get out there!

With respect to freezing up yer trailer bearings, what about driving around your empty trailer for a few miles immediately after launching to let the water drain? Wouldn't that fix the problem? Besides, it's not that cold out. Sheesh.

You *may* find Picton Harbour frozen over with these cooler temps, however you should have no problem launching either on the east side of the ferry, or else in Adolphustown Park. There is certainly no ice problem out that way. They're calling for six degrees, rain, and light south winds on New Year's Day, so if you want to "bring in the New Year right" that sounds like the second-best way to do it.

I don't think it is going to be much of a season for ice fishen.. Global warming you know, the polar bears are pissed and resorting to eating one and other. There going to head down here and if there is ice fishen they will knock the ice fishen hut over and eat us. :x :x :x
