Laurie caught her first salmon an 18lber just off of Scotch Bonnet island, it may not have been an extremely large one, however it was her frist and a personal best right now. Image

Next week we will punish her with more fish.

Best regards,
Sam

Salmon are still being caught In the Wellington area, south of Salmon Point, large quantities of bait fish around 140-170 feet of water and of course Salmon. Whoever reported that there are no fish in the area must have been in the wrong area. We weighed in 15 fish on Wednesday into the WHIP Derby from 4 boats, all had also released several fish.
Anglers are mostly NOT weighing in fish to the SUN derby unless they can get into the top 10, does not mean they are not catching them, a 30 pounder was weighed into the local Derby last week, angler did not have a Sun ticket !!
Fingerlings that were raised ( 45, 000 of them each year) for the last 5 years and released in the Wellington/ Barcoven area will be staging in this area over the next 3 months. So the good fishing will continue.

I think it might be a little early to write off Wellington.

When you consider your data remember you might have a hundred boats out of a western port and maybe five out of Wellington. If we had a couple hundred boats on the water like the old days I'm sure we could get a few great success stories. Its hard to fish salmon on weekends if you don't have guys out there tracking them all week to give you an idea of where they are.

Just got a report back from one of our customers this morning and he got an 18lb. King, a 14 lb. Coho and a rainbow. He had a few knockoffs and got some shakers as well. He got out there a little late this morning and started fishing at 7:30 am.

Best regards,
Sam

I find this rather funny really, went fishing the last two days South of Salmon Point and got 4 Salmon each day. Went to the wall south of Scotch Bonnet this morning for a few hours as had to head home at 10AM and got 2 one over 15lbs. & one just over 20lbs. Yep they have left you guys all head west leave them for us. I guess if they don't catch fish within a mile of scotch bonnet means the Salmon have left. Yesterday three fellows from our camp caught 6 all over 15lbs at the wall, thus the reason I went for a few hours this morning. I think your information is wrong, but again that is okay "go west" young men less competition for us old geezers.
