OPP on the water

OPP Napanee Marine and SAVE (Snowmobile, All Terrain, Vessel Enforcement ) Unit were out on Patrol on Friday around the Hay Bay area, Deseronto and Napanee River during the Kiwanis annual fishing tournament.

Several Vessels were checked by the OPP and a number of warnings were issued under the Small Vessel Regulations.

During the stepped up marine patrols Saturday, officers stopped a vessel operator who was found to have been drinking and was arrested at the scene near Glenora. He was subsequently issued a thee-day driving suspension and released.

Later Saturday afternoon, just before 6 p.m., the marine unit pulled over another vessel near Hay Bay operated by a man from Sarsfield, Ont. Police found open liquor in the vessel and the driver had been drinking. Police arrested the driver.

Yves Michel Potvin, 31, was charged with operating a vessel while Over 80mgs of alcohol and for having open liquor while in care and control of a boat under the Liquor Licence Act. Potvin was released and is scheduled to appear in Napanee court May 25.
