My father inlaw and I launched at Glenora ferry on Sunday morning. The wind was howling up the pipe SW. Big whitecaps everywhere. Put the boat on plane and headed east. Got to about aldophustown and speared a big wave. Water everywhere including inside my floater suit right down my back. No matter we kept going. A little further east the waves are getting bigger and speared a few more waves. Finally put out the lines and trolled with the wind. Driftsock and bucket out and still going 3mph. Tried turning and going into the wind but then each wave was busting over the bow. Tried running up into the bay a bit but basically the same result. Pulled out and went home. Its weather like that I wished I had a big cabin cruiser. The launch at Glenora is terrible when the wind is blowing from the west or SW. I would advise any, in that situation, to use the Aldophustown Park launch, it does not have a dock. Just a launch.

Did see a number of boats out. 2 groups, one group around the ferry and just east and the other way down close to the Gap. One boat I spoke with had caught 1 fish. The MNR creel census guys were out and they said not much happening so far. They also reported that one of the boats that they spoke with saturday had done well around thompsons but that that same boat was now in the Ferry area.
How did everyone else do??
Pete I was SKUNKED... Should of went rock climbing

Have to agree with you about that launch Dan!

Sounds like our day out there a couple weeks ago!

Hoping to get down later this week or early next!

dan,I was there at the park during a hard southwest blow 2 weeks ago,you will swamp a boat trying to put her on the trailer there.I went to the ferry launch and saw a fellow load with no problem. I used the ferry launch for 2 weeks, the rest are too shallow for me.I would recommend the mcfarland launch for that wind condition if you don't mind getting in the water some. roughrider

The launch ramp has a bump between the metal grating and the cement pad. Next time we launch there, we're bringing a couple of 2x6's to make it a little more level.

Hope that little tidbit can help.

The ramp at Glenora appears level where the grate meets the concrete but as soon as any weight is applied the grate drops down about 4 inches as Superdad said. Something needs to be put under the grate to stop it from galling. I had to take a pretty good run at it to make it over the bump when pulling out. Anyone with a 4x4 will be fine there. Roughrider thanks for the tip on Aldophustown. I think I will stick to Picton for as long as I can and it sounds like tdoug should too OUCH! I have dropped my trailer over the edge there as well but fortunately no damage.

How long would it take to run to Thompsons from Glenora at say 30mph. Just wondering if it's better to launch at Glenora and make the run to thompson's.

I've launched at Glenora ferry before with out any troubles.

I'll be there on saturday morning probably.

That would be a short run less than 10 minutes
