After hunting everyday possible since it opened I nailed one at 40 yards and dropped it right there. Unfortunately she was no trophy size. I had shot a very nice one last Sunday and never retrieved him, he would have been around the 250 mark. After spending 2 days and 4 guys we figure he ran into the swamp. I know I had a good shot on him in the left shoulder and had great blood trail....that's hunting I guess.
My buddy shot a sow from his stand Sunday morning and asked if I wanted to try the afternoon hunt at the same spot. I went in thinking there is no chance another one would come in especially after he got his there and we gut it in that same spot.
I was sitting in the stand for only 50 mins when this sow came walking right in towards the guy pile and zero interest in all the food I just placed there at the barrel. She stared right at me twice knowing I was there. She paused for a second in a clearing and I shot her directly in the head dropping her on the spot.
My wife still has her tag so we're going out again in a few mins to try and get the big one that keeps making his 3-4 day daily appearence, last we saw him on the cam was a few mins before I walked in Sunday. Her first hunt of any kind, guessing beginners luck will have her the big bear this year!

Congrations! Great to see all that earlier work paid off for you. Hopefully we'll get to see a picture of your wife's bare... :o , I mean bear.

Adventure, that's Moose hunting talk. I thought you'd be on the road by now.
Good luck Dave.

We went out last night, she sat in the tree stand I was on the ground behind her on a rock ledge overhang. Baited the barrel hard and even had some Tinks Smokey Bacon scent sticks burning. Only to have the hunt ruined an hr and a half in by some idiot and his son trespassing and riding bikes along the ATV trail we made in.
I asked what he was doing and he just said going for a bike ride, I said you know this is private property right? He said yes, found out today he's a cop in town. Guess they make their own rules.
He asked what we were hunting for and acted like he had no idea he was in bear country, saying there are no bears around here even though we took 2 out of the same stand on Sunday.
Going to wait a few days before heading back into the same spot, hopefully soon she'll have her first bear down!
